google's "DiscussionForumPosting" protocol -- is there a way to support it?
#1

Gloogle's search indexotron recently notified me, after it saw Commentics installed, that there were nonfatal errors in the comment forum area.  It had two specific messages, one being "Comment object must be nested inside a CreativeWork object", and the other being "Missing field url (in author)".  Looking for further explanation took me to this page, https://developers.google.com/search/doc...sion-forum, which was confusing because it assumes prior knowledge or context which I had no idea about, nor any notion that it existed, and all seems to be based on some protocol or standard or format known as "DiscussionForumPosting".  What the heck?

What this reminds me of is something I dealt with about a decade ago, where they wanted product reviews to be tagged with json metadata which put things like star ratings into a uniform format that could be displayed during searches.  Maybe this is something like that -- metadata to attach to comments.  Maybe not.

Has anybody looked at this google search expectation and figured out how it relates to Commentics?  If so, is there anything I can do to help out this issue?  If not, are there plans to support it within the Commentics product?

I haven't bought the Plus package yet, but I do plan to do that soon.

I can't say I've heard of "DiscussionForumPosting" before but I think you're right that it's related to marking-up the HTML with metadata to help the search engines. In your Commentics admin area, if you go to Extensions -> Modules -> Rich Snippets, you'll see how you can apply metadata to the comments. One of your errors mentions the word CreativeWork and you can select that using the Type field. I'd suggest experimenting with that and testing it afterwards with the tool that it links to.

Have you completed the interview?

Great -- it sounds like this has probably been addressed. I can use the Rich Snippets module. The gotcha is that it seems to be tuned mainly for reporting star ratings, which is a feature I turned off in my comments. I think I'll try turning the ratings feature on for one site.
