Upgrading from 2.3 to 2.5 possible?
#1

Hi Steven,

Is it possible to upgrade from 2.3 to 2.5?
Can I simply follow the 2.4 -> 2.5 upgrade procedure or are there some extra steps to take?

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

You'll have to combine the steps for 2.3 -> 2.4 and 2.4 -> 2.5. I've done this for you below:

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v2.5 download, do the following:
- delete all the text files in /upload/includes/words/
- rename the admin folder /upload/admin/ to match your admin folder.
- rename the /upload/ folder to match your /comments/ folder.
4. Upload the /upload/ folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
5. In the pages where Commentics is integrated, do the following:
- remove the line: ob_start();
- remove the line: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="comments/css/stylesheet.css"/>
- remove the line: define('IN_COMMENTICS', 'true'); //no need to edit this line
6. Delete the file http://www.domain.com/upload/includes/db/details.php
7. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/upload/installer/
8. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
9. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

Have you completed the interview?

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the information.
Following your instructions I upgraded successfully from 2.3 to 2.5 .

I got two minor issues specific to my installation, but maybe helpful for some other users:
5. On my site pages I could not found the line ob_start() so I could not delete these lines.
7. The Start button of the upgrade page was not working (nothing happened when clicked). This was due to some redirects in my main .htaccess file (e.g. removing .php from the file names, etc.). After temporary removing everything in my .htaccess file, the upgrade button worked and the upgrade went smoothly.

Thanks again for the great work and all the support,
Ron
