Did you run the installer at yoursite.com/comments/installer/ ??

Yes I run the installer. The system check yielded two fails concerning magic quotes and system(). May it be because of these fails?

No, those fails wouldn't cause that error.

At the time when you get that error, the script is trying to use an SQL query to retrieve all of the settings from the settings database table. There must be a problem with the result it is getting back. It's a very simple query so the only reason I can imagine it not working is that you don't have the settings database table there or it is corrupt perhaps. Since you have only just installed the script, I'd recommend to try a complete re-install to see if that fixes it.
