Another question: is it possible to set it up so I din't have to approve the comments, but I still get an e-mail notification whenever a comment is posted?

Hi,

This is default behaviour. You may not have received the email notification because you were posting as the administrator.

So if I turn off approval, I'll still get an e-mail notification any time someone posts a comment?

Yes, if you go to Settings -> Administrator, you'll see that there are two types of new comment emails, one for approvals and one for when the comment is okay. Just make sure that the 'New Comment (Okay)' one is selected.
