Comments Causing HTTPS To Become Insecure
#11

I have now disabled most of the features on the form ie smilies, flags, social buttons. This has reduced the problem to thirty stars which I want to retain as they are the most important part of the comment. How do I get the stars to be rendered securely?

Hi Ron,

Some of these are caused by your own website (favicon and feedburner etc). For the others, most of them can be resolved by going to 'Settings -> System' and changing the http in the 'Commentics URL' setting. For the smilies you'll have to individually edit the particular comments which have the smilies in 'Manage -> Comments'.

Have you completed the interview?

Hi Steven,
I have eliminated most of the problems. I have sorted favicon.ico,  FeedBurner etc etc. The one I can't resolve is the stars for my comment ratings. I have been right through the php files looking for image source to see if I need to add https but can't find the section that relates to the star images. I am showing 30 errors all for insecure image, comments/images/stars/star full.png Can you help me with this one please?

I am still getting this:
Mixed Content: The page at 'https://www.jollygoodfun.co.uk/index.php' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure image 'http://jollygoodfun.co.uk/comments/images/stars/star_full.png'. This content should also be served over HTTPS.
My site is being served over https but the stars are causing a problem. The stars are very important. I have disabled the smilies and this helped but I want to keep the stars.

Problem solved after many hours of tearing my hair out. I just needed to change the URL to https in the Commentics Control panel:
Settings / System:
/comments/commentshq/index.php?page=settings_system
I am happy again.
Many thanks.

Hi Steven,
I have been designing a new website, which is nearing completion and I installed Commentics on it. I am essentially having this same issue on this site as well, only it isn't the comments causing the page to become insecure. It is the script itself. I was not able to install the latest version, because Godaddy doesn't have MySQL 5.6.5 or higher as of yet. So, I installed the same version I have on my other site (v2.5-R1), since I know it works.

I have Commentics URL set to https:// in admin/settings/system...

Also, the test emails are never received. Any idea how to fix that?

Also, the first time I posted a test comment (with Chrome browser), I received an error message, which I will attach. I disregarded it and clicked "add comment" again and the comment posted and two test replies posted fine without receiving the error... Any idea what caused this and is there anything I can do to ensure that site visitors won't get this error?

I will PM you the url to the page I have the comments on...

Thanks, Steven. I hope all is well for you! Smile

Hi Methyus,

I'm currently looking into some changes to make the latest version of Commentics work on earlier MySQL versions. In the meantime, if you did still want to use the latest version of Commentics, you can use it by following the FAQ advice on the requirements page.

If you want to use the version you've already installed, I'd try this change:

1. Open /upload/includes/functions/page.php and find the cmtx_commentics_url() function.

2. On the line before "return $url;" add this line:

PHP Code:
<?php
return 'https://www.your-domain.com/your-commentics-folder/';

About the emails, go to 'Settings -> Email -> Setup', click the 'Method' option and make sure it's set to the right one. It might be that it's set to one of the 'PHP' methods and for your server only 'SMTP' works. If there's another script installed on your server which sends emails you could have a look at how that's set up. Also make sure the 'Sender' options are correct, for example that the 'From Email' and 'Reply Email' are of the same domain and that the email addresses are set up. There's an FAQ with other reasons as well.

It's the first time I've heard of the referrer not being provided and then provided the next time you submit without doing anything inbetween. If you're concerned other users will experience it then you can disable the check in 'Settings -> Security'.

Have you completed the interview?

Hi Steven,
As always, you are the man! lol I followed all of the instructions given in the FAQ to install v3.1 and everything seems to be working perfectly! Even email notifications... Smile And, wow... Just when you think Commentics can't get any better, you raise the bar again! Commentics has changed a lot. It's all shiny and new... lol Excellent work on all of the upgrading you've done since 2.5!

Thanks so much for all that you do for us! Hope you have a great holiday season!
