Installation to existing database not working
#1

Hello,

I have been trying to install Commentics to an existing database (because of the limits imposed by my hosting provider), but when I enter the database name, I get the message "The database already exists. Please choose a different name." If I leave the field blank and click Install, I get the message "The database was not posted."

I have seen a previous thread (originally posted by Boris: https://www.commentics.org/forum/showthr...p?tid=1448) that says it is possible to install to an existing database. What am I doing wrong? Please help...

Thanks!
Oleg Gorfinkel.

Hi Oleg,

Neither of those error messages belong to Commentics. Where did you download it from?

Hi Steven,

I was trying to install it via Softaculous script installer, which I launched through my hosting provider's Control Panel. Is there another way to install the software to avoid those error messages?

Okay yes just install by downloading it from this website and following the installation guide.

Great, thanks, I'll do that right away. By the way, I also noticed that when I tried to enter a database name that was longer than 7 characters (one of my two databases has a longer name), I got a message saying that there was a 7-character limit. Is that a Commentics or a Softaculous limitation?

Commentics doesn't have a limit on the database name.

I was able to install Commentics and integrate it into a page on my site -- thanks! I have one more question, though: is there a way to change the language to Spanish? I found the Language section on the Control Panel, but the only language that seems to be available is English...

The current version only has an English translation. It's simple to add a new one. Just follow this guide:

If you could send me your finished translation that would be really appreciated so I can make it available for others.

Done, here is the Spanish translation. Hope it'll be useful to people.

Thanks for all your help, and congratulations on a beautifully made product!

Hi Oleg,

Thank you!

Also, if you've translated your emails in 'Settings -> Email -> Editor', could you please send me a database export of your 'emails' table?

Have you completed the interview?
