Hi,

It's saying that your $mysql_username, $mysql_password or $mysql_host is incorrect in comments/includes/db/connect.php

Have you completed the interview?

Hi Administrator Steven,

I saw rusthy813,s problem: “Sorry, there is a database connection problem.”

My problem is similar but a little different

1. Download and unzip the programme.
2. Create a database for Commentics on your server.
3. Open comments/includes/db/connect.php and enter your database details.
4. Upload the programme (comments folder) to your website root.
5. Change the permissions of http://www.domain.com/comments/includes/db/connect.php to 444.
6. Rename the admin folder http://www.domain.com/comments/admin/
7. Run the installer http://www.domain.com/comments/installer Yields:
404 Page Not Found
http://www.go2sports.com/comments/instal...tall_1.php Yields:
Commentics
Sorry, there is a database connection problem.
Please check back again shortly .. Thank you!

But I, and my hosting techs can’t find anything wrong with this:
//ENTER DATABASE INFORMATION HERE**BETWEEN THE DOUBLE QUOTES "" ***************************************************
$mysql_database = "gotwospo_s-how-to_comments"; // The name of the database you created
$mysql_username = "joe2com"; // Your MySQL username
$mysql_password = "AbC1@3$5"; // Your MySQL password
$mysql_host = "localhost"; // Usually 'localhost'. Can be an IP address.
$mysql_table_prefix = ""; // In most cases leave blank.
//************************************************************************************

Hi,

You have some symbols in $mysql_database and $mysql_password, like _ - @ $. This could be the problem.

Also, where did you download Commentics from? I ask because the text "BETWEEN THE DOUBLE QUOTES" should not be there.

Have you completed the interview?

There is only one installer, not two. "domain.com" is just an example. You need to replace "domain.com" with your own website address, so it's:
http://www.go2sports.com/comments/installer/

Regarding the database connection problem, see my above post about not using symbols in your database name and password.

RE: Sorry, there is a database connection problem.

I took care of those suggestions above, got it to install, but can not access the Dashboard. I get the following Error:
Sorry, there is a database connection problem.
Please check back again shortly .. Thank you!

In the cPanel I found the following reference. Could this be the problem?

"When connecting to your database the hostname you will almost always use is localhost. The exception to this will be if the script or program you wish to connect to the database is running on a different system than the one hosted with Bluehost, in which case the hostname will be box785.bluehost.com."

Thanks,
Dhreyon

• Hi, Guys,

• I have reworked everything, but so far I am having no success. Here is the last thing I have redone. I hope you can find the detail that I have missed screwed up or whatever, so I can get thing running on BlueHost:

• Can you give me any clue as to what is wrong with this or anything else:
• I redid the whole process again step by step and still can not get it to give access
• Download and unzip the programme.1.
• Create a NEW database for Commentics on your serve2. r. =
• gotwospo_commentics
• Open comments/includes/db/connect.php and enter your CHANGED database details.3.
• ***********************************************************************************************************
• $mysql_database = "gotwospo_commentics"; // The name of the database you created
• $mysql_username = "gotwospo_Joe2com"; // Your MySQL username
• $mysql_password = "AsBc[3-1=2]"; // Your MySQL password
• $mysql_host = "localhost"; // Usually 'localhost'. Can also be an IP address.
• $mysql_table_prefix = ""; // In most cases leave blank.
• //*********************************************************************************************************
• Upload the programme (comments folder) to your website root.4.
• go2sports.com/public_html
• Change the permissions of http://www.domain.com/comments/includes/db/connect.php to 444.5.
• Rename the admin folder http://www.domain.com/comments6.
• from admin to dhradmin2c
• Ran the Installer:7. http://www.go2sports.com/comments/installer/
• Ran the Dashboard Access:8. phttp://go2sports.com/comments/dhradmin2c/
• Your search - phttp://go2sports.com/comments/dhradmin2c/ - did not match any documents.

• Thank so much,

Lost a day on this.....

I have the same error but my host forces an _ in its db names.

All my dbs start coolpeng_

and the name of the one I wish to use is coolpeng_comments

Help please.

Hi,

The character _ is absolutely fine (my host forces the same thing). I was referring more about the other characters like $ etc.

It must be something else which is the issue.

Have you completed the interview?

I have a similar problem. My error states: "Sorry, there is a database selection problem". My db login requires at least one unique symbol. I use the "$" sign.

If this is the cause of the problem, is there a way to allow special symbols?

If this is not the cause of the problem, do you have any suggestions?
